mk:@MSITStore error while accessing .chm files

If you are working with Microsoft HTML Help in RoboHelp, you might get the following error while opening the .chm file.

mk:@MSITStore Error

This error usually occurs due to HHCTRL.OCX file which is a Windows file used to view help files. Most of the times it gets overwritten by some newly installed hardware, softwares or even updates. You can try the following steps to resolve this issue:

  1. Restore the previous version of HHCTRL.OCX. You can do so by restoring your system to a system restore point, copying it from the windows installation disk or downloading it from the internet.
  2. Try replacing the HHCTRL.OCX file from a system on which you are able to open the .chm file successfully.
  3. Register the HHCTRL.OCX file by running the following command:register_hhctrl.ocx
